The Consultation

Consultations are with a Chartered Psychologist, are undertaken via Zoom or telephone and are up to 40 minutes in length.

Consultations are for parents and caregivers only. Children and adolescents are not seen as part of the consultations.

The information and advice provided by the psychologist during the consultations is their expert professional opinion. Following this advice is done so at your own risk. The psychologist and Parent Advice accepts no liability for any loss (financial or otherwise), damage or injury that occurs as a result of following any of the advice given.

As a Chartered Psychologists with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI), Dr McDarby and his team adhere to their ethical framework and guidelines to ensure that you receive a professional and quality service.

If you choose to have your consultation with the psychologist over Zoom, you will receive an email with the Zoom link for your consultation in advance of the consultation. At the time of your consultation, click on the Zoom link to be taken to the virtual waiting room. The psychologist will then commence the consultation with you when he is ready.

If you choose to have your consultation with the psychologist over the phone, at the time of the consultation the psychologist will phone you on the phone number you provided at the time of booking. Please ensure that you are available to take the phone call.

Consultations with the psychologist are confidential and without prejudice. Although you are free to discuss the contents of the consultation with third parties, no responsibility will be accepted by Dr McDarby or Parent Advice for the consequences of this.

The psychologist will not discuss the contents of the consultation with third parties without your express permission. However, under Children’s First guidelines confidentiality may be broken if the psychologist has concerns that your child or another identified person is at risk. If this occurs, it will be discussed in the consultation and recommendations will be discussed and documented.

Record Keeping

During the consultation, the psychologist may take notes which will form part of your electronic health record (EHR). If you complete the pre-consultation questionnaire, this will also form part of your EHR. The EHR is used to generate a report of your consultation that will be provided to you after the consultation. The EHR is also used for follow-up consultations with Dr McDarby.
